Why This Site Exists
Wisconsin makes many public records available, but custody records do not all sit in one database. A person booked into a county jail is usually handled by the local sheriff or jail. A sentenced person in state prison or DOC supervision is searched through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Federal prison records belong to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, immigration custody belongs to ICE, and court entries are separate from jail custody.
Wisconsin Inmate Population is built as a statewide routing and research site for those divided systems. It is not DOC, a sheriff's office, a court, BOP, ICE, VINE, or any government agency.
What You Can Find
The site focuses on practical inmate population and custody lookup paths across Wisconsin.
- Help using inmate records, jail rosters and mugshots, and court records after an arrest.
- A County Directory that points to each Wisconsin county's local inmate population site.
- A statewide Facility Directory covering county jails, DOC facilities, federal custody, ICE detention, Huber centers, and other documented detention rows.
- Statewide context for the difference between county jail, state prison, court, federal, immigration, and notification records.
What We Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site. It has no authority over any Wisconsin sheriff's office, jail, court, corrections department, federal prison, or immigration detention system.
- We cannot release, hold, move, or transfer a person in custody.
- We cannot post bond, schedule a visit, send money, or change a jail account.
- We cannot provide legal advice or interpret a court order for you.
- We cannot guarantee that every roster entry, phone number, address, release status, or court detail is current.
Only the office that maintains the record can confirm a current custody status, charge, sentence, release date, warrant, or court action.
Search Partners
Some pages may include search boxes or sponsored tools operated by outside providers. Those providers set their own prices, terms, data practices, and search results. If a visitor chooses a paid signup or partner search, this site may receive a referral fee. That support helps keep the Wisconsin reference pages available, but it does not make the partner tool an official government search and it does not give us control over partner results.
